In the heart of Northeast Indiana, downtown Fort Wayne is alive with energy. And in the center of it all: The Landing. For 185 years, The Landing has been essential to our community’s story. And now, a new chapter—one with 70 apartments and 56,000 SF of commercial space—begins.
The Landing was the location of the city’s first post office (1820), hotel (1823), newspaper (1833), theater (1851), and railway station (1853). In fact, it was on The Landing that our community first became a county (1824), a township (1824), and finally a city (1840). The Landing today is once again the center of downtown’s vibrancy and revitalization. A significant investment was made to preserve the historic architecture, expand residential units available at the site, and modernize commercial spaces. Columbia Street also saw a huge transformation, including removing curbs from the street providing a seamless transition from business to street, repaving, new light fixtures, benches, and landscaping. Gates were erected at each end of Columbia Street allowing it to be closed to vehicular traffic and opened for festivals and events.
